Packers Women's Association to hold 26th Food Drive Sept. 30

Posted Sep 26, 2012

Fans attending Packers-Saints game encouraged to donate non-perishable food, cash

The Packers Women’s Association (PWA)is teaming up with UnitedHealthcare for the 26th Annual Food Drive for Paul’s Pantry prior to the Green Bay Packers-New Orleans Saints game on Sept. 30 at Lambeau Field. This year’s effort is headed by co-chairwomen Laura Hawk, wife of Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk, and Ericka Whitt, wife of Packers secondary cornerback coach Joe Whitt Jr.

Prior to kickoff on gameday, PWA members will collect non-perishable food items and cash donations in the stadium parking lot and at the gates. Each PWA member will be wearing the jersey of her husband or significant other, or a PWA jersey. Food items can be placed in bins located throughout the Lambeau Field parking lot.

Volunteers from UnitedHealthcare, a national health insurance provider, and Paul’s Pantry, a supplementary food distribution program for the needy in the greater Green Bay area, will be assisting with the collection and wearing PWA pins.

“We’re thrilled to be continuing our food drive for the 26th year,” Laura Hawk, co-chairwoman of the Packers Women’s Association food drive said. “We’ve had tremendous success over the years and we are excited this season to partner with UnitedHealthcare to continue tackling hunger in the community that has been so supportive of the Packers’ efforts.”

As an added incentive to donate to the food drive, fans have an opportunity to win Packers autographed items. For every $5 donation or five non-perishable food items contributed, a fan will receive a ticket stub. The winning ticket numbers will be drawn and announced on the scoreboard during the game. Fans with the winning ticket stubs can pick up their item at the guest services desk in the Lambeau Field Atrium.

“UnitedHealthcare is committed to doing its part to eradicate hunger,” said Wendy Arnone, president and CEO of UnitedHealthcare of Wisconsin.  “We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Packers, Packers Women’s Association and Paul’s Pantry to make a difference in the lives of Wisconsin residents and to ensure they have access to fresh, nutritious food.”

Overall, in 25 years of conducting the food drive, the PWA has collected approximately 959,381 non-perishable food items and $260,661 for Paul’s Pantry.
